Kesha Ram: Our Car-Free Legislator!
Kesha Ram, Vermont State Representative for Chittenden 3-4, became the first legislator to join CarShare Vermont this winter! Here's what she had to say about joining:"One of the reasons I love living in Burlington is because I can generally walk and bike everywhere, but using a CarShare car saves me from having to lug groceries up the hill in the snow and takes the time pressure off of having back-to-back meetings with constituents in different parts of town. Not to mention I have become quite attached to Dewey (a Subaru in the CarShare Vermont fleet)!
Looking at the bigger picture, we have to take serious steps to reduce our carbon emissions and change our transportation paradigm at the local, state, and national level. With CarShare Vermont, Burlingtonians can explore the range of alternatives to constant use of single-occupancy vehicles, without having to sacrifice the utility and comfort of a car when they really need it. The program also provides much-needed access to cars for those who do not otherwise have the means to own and maintain one.
I value solutions that bring us closer to becoming sustainable as a community while still recognizing the need for equity and consideration in how we approach new initiatives. CarShare is accessible, functional, and innovative, and I have no doubt that it will continue to evolve as a valuable resource alongside our vibrant neighborhoods."
-Kesha Ram, State Representative
